Music Theory Basics
Understanding music theory helps you communicate with other musicians and understand why music works.
Notes and Intervals
- Half Step (Semitone): One fret on the guitar
- Whole Step (Tone): Two frets on the guitar
- Octave: Same note, 12 frets higher
Chord Construction
Chords are built from scales. A major chord uses the 1st, 3rd, and 5th notes of the major scale.
Example: C major = C (1st) + E (3rd) + G (5th)
